The Rockland County Sheriff's Department and Clarkstown Police Department are organizing a gun buyback initiative for the 24th of April this year. This program provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted firearms.

Event Details

  • Date: Thursday, April 24, 2025
  • Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Location: East Spring Valley Fire Department, 62 Overlook Blvd, Nanuet
  • Terms of Exchange:
    • $250 for assault rifles
    • $150 for handguns
    • $75 for rifles or shotguns
    • $25 for non-working or antique guns
  • Eligibility: Open to community members; licensed gun dealers and active/retired law enforcement officers are not eligible
  • Procedure: Firearms must be transported unloaded and secured in vehicle trunks

Program Overview

The program operates on a no-questions-asked basis for participants. All firearms collected through this initiative will be destroyed after the event. The Sheriff's Office also reserves the right to decline manufactured gun parts or incomplete firearms.

The initiative represents a united effort between the Rockland County Sheriff's Department, Clarkstown Police Department, New York State Police, and the Rockland County District Attorney's Office.
