The program operates on an anonymous basis, with no questions asked of participants turning in weapons.Sheriff Clarence Birkhead emphasized that the buyback program represents just one component of a broader public safety strategy. "We don't have an expectation for this. We don't have a goal. What I want to do is get the message out that if you're going to be a gun owner, let's be a responsible gun owner," explained Birkhead. While acknowledging that buyback programs alone cannot solve gun violence issues, Sheriff Birkhead views them as valuable tools for public safety. "It's all about mitigating the risk and eliminating the possibility of those weapons ending up on our streets," he noted.
