Partner agencies include the Belmont Police Department, Menlo Park Police Department, and Redwood City Police Department, working alongside the County of San Mateo and Citizens for San Mateo County Gun Buyback.Sheriff Christina Corpus emphasized the program's safety benefits, stating that gun buyback events provide a safe and anonymous avenue for community members to remove unwanted firearms from their homes.Nearly 3,000 firearms have been collected and safely destroyed through these initiatives over the years. A spring 2024 event yielded 297 firearms including 24 assault weapons, four ghost guns, and one machine gun.Participants should ensure firearms are unloaded and securely stored in vehicle trunks prior to arrival. All firearms will be accepted without question, maintaining the program's commitment to anonymity and community safety.The gun buyback program receives funding from the County of San Mateo in partnership with the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
