Philadelphia community members will have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted firearms through a gun buyback program scheduled for mid-June. The anonymous nature of the program removes barriers that might prevent individuals from participating in voluntary firearm surrender initiatives.Law enforcement personnel will be present throughout the event to ensure secure handling and collection of all surrendered weapons. The program operates on a no-questions-asked policy, emphasizing community safety over legal inquiries.In addition to the buyback program, organizers will distribute free gun locks to promote responsible firearm storage practices. This dual approach addresses both the reduction of unwanted firearms and the safe storage of retained weapons.Multiple organizations will provide support and resources during the event, including CeaseFirePA, Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network, United Way, Compassionate Consultants for Trauma-Informed Care, Senator Christine Tartaglione, Representative Joseph Hohenstein, and Unique Dreams Inc.
